Varsity Lettering Criteria
90% attendance is required to letter. If a swimmer does not have 90% attendance for the meets and practices, the swimmer will not letter even if the required points have been met.
Swimmers must earn a minimum of 100 points in order to earn a varsity letter. Letter points can be earned in all of the following ways:
-Competing in varsity events – swimmers will earn the same number of letter points, as they earn for the team, by competing in varsity events.
-1 point will be given for being entered in a varsity event, even if the swimmer does not place.
*Points are earned as follows: 6pts for 1st, 4pts for 2nd, 3pts for 3rd, 2pts for 4th, and 1pt for 5th.
*Relays are scored as follows: 8pts for 1st, 4pts for 2nd, and 2pts for 3rd.
-Extra points are earned for placing in the top 12 at League, District, and State.
***The coaches reserve the right to deny any athlete a varsity letter regardless of points earned, due to unsportsmanlike conduct at any point during the season, or due to behavior which reflects badly upon the PHS swim team or school, outside of practice or meets.

- -Personal time improvement – A swimmer will receive 1 letter point for every PR (personal record/best time) that they earn throughout the season, regardless of whether the time was earned in a varsity or JV event.
-School or meet record – any swimmer or diver who beats a school or meet record will earn an extra 10 points on top of any points earned by placing.
-Attendance – Athletes will earn points at the end of the season for practice attendance. Attendance points are assigned as follows:
0 practices missed = 10pts
1 practice missed = 5pts- 2-3 practices missed = 3pts
Academics – Athletes can bring the coach an official copy of their current grades (even if the semester is not yet over) and earn points for keeping a high GPA during the swim
season.- 4.0-3.8 = 5pts
3.7-3.5 = 4pts
3.4-3.2 = 3pts
3.1-3.0 = 2pts
-Divers can earn points in the same way as swimmers: points for placing in varsity, attendance, and academics.
